Employer vs. Employee: Who Runs Your Workplace? (Infographic) Once upon a time, employers called all the shots. But things have changed.

Once upon a time, everyone accepted that the boss called the shots. However, in the last 15 years, employees have begun to gain more power in the workplace. As employees demand flexible hours, work-life balance and freedom in the office, the employer's word is no longer the law.

What does this all mean? With 74 percent of employees ranking benefits as most important for retention and 68 percent indicating management climate is another important retention factor, employers have had to adapt: 72 percent of employers offer flex time and 51 percent offer telecommuting, according to Spherion's 2013 Emerging Workforce Study.
